ROUTE INFO

The 100 Miler

Route Description

The route is non technical, following  the district gravel roads between Barkly East to Rhodes, over the Naude's Nek pass to Maclear. With a Short Tar Road section out of Barkly East before hitting the dirt...

Don't burn your matches  to early as the climbs takes no prisoners.

The Eastern Cape is beautiful but it is also brutal, believe us when we say this is not a route that should be underestimated.

Many a rider has started to fast, skipped a water point or thought it would be easy. This is a proper challenge, with wind, heat & altitude being major factors we urge you to come prepared.

After reaching water point 1 at Mesheshesford bridge the road starts tilting up quite a bit with riders hitting the first significant climb of the day "Donkerhoek" at 40km

Cycling over the Naude's Nek pass (3rd Highest pass in South Africa) will prove to be the major test for the day as the highest point tips out at 2690m. Leaving the 2nd water point for the day at Alpine Swift Trail, Riders will start going up.

After reaching the top, riders will be rewarded with 30km down hill towards Maclear. Remember you still have a bit of climbing to do.

With 30km to go riders will hit the "Pot river Pass", This will be the last major climb for the day. PG bison will be there to fill your water bottels and cheer you on.

Home James... a relatively flat roll into town with tired legs might not be that easy, but you're almost there.

Cold beers and great burgers await riders at the finish, The Maclear Country Club.

Enjoy the ride!
